All of Our Eggs in One Basket
Let me first say. I am very proud of Democratic America for nominating
Obama. It shows how much we have learned from the past and a very
bright look for the future. With that said, I am not voting for Obama.
As a black man, this is very hard for me. I just can’t bring
myself to vote for someone who has such limited experience. I mean
even Kennedy had more years of service than Obama and Kennedy is the
only Democrat I believe I would ever vote for, if I weren’t
just 3 years old when he was in office. It is important that we understand
the history of the Democratic Party and why I would never belong to
the party of slavery. The Democratic Party was started by angry white
men of the south. They were against the Washington establishment.
They were standard bearers of keeping slaves and women in there place.
These men who watched as Andrew Jackson marched into Florida and killed
over two thousand Indians. Some history books call it what it was.
Invasion. Jackson went in without the president’s okay.
Many of that time, thought as these new Democrats thought. I ask
many of my brother’s and sister’s why they vote for democrats.
Most are clueless of their parties' history and practically want to
come to blows when I tell them that Dr. King was a Republican, also
Frederick Douglas and Harriet Tubman, just to mention a few. It is
with astonishment on their faces when the facts are presented. Black
Republicans will forever have to deal with the short sited thinking
of our own. The same people who call us Uncle Toms for not following
the sheep. As if it is better to belong to one collective group rather
than thinking and progressing for one’s self. Most Blacks are
conservative at heart. Most are against Gay marriage, want strong
national security and want to protect themselves in their homes. When
spelled out, the Conservative agenda doesn’t look so bad. How
in the world do we as blacks think we can start to control the political
agenda when over ninety percent of us vote one way? No other group
does this except for blacks. No other group puts all of their eggs
in one basket. The definition of insanity is: Continuing to do the
same thing and expect a different result.
Baltimore, MD, has been run by Democrats for the last 40 plus years
and we still have over 300 people murdered every year. Our schools
are nothing but a baby sitting service because you can’t call
a place a school that doesn’t do the job of educating. The job
being to teach and graduate students into life. Teacher’s unions
are taking all of the bite of change. It was not until a Republican
president came along we found a way to actually get rid of bad teachers
and principals. The NCLB act allows this to happen, even with the
Teachers Union crying all the way to court. There is no way in any
shape or form where you can show me that Democratic control of Maryland
has done any good for the everyday black person in Baltimore. The
only way for real political clout for African Americans is to form
an independent party and join the Republican Party in great numbers.
Blacks must spread the vote out in order to get party leaders attention.
In November black folks will flock to the polls to cast their vote.
Red states will go red. Blue states will go blue. It is the folks
in the middle who will decide who will be president. Black folks will
have little to say about the final outcome. Even if all 13% of the
U.S. population votes for Obama it doesn’t mean he will get
elected. Blacks make up 13% of the population and we have closed our
eyes and ears to the past. We have learned nothing about the socialist
agenda that many in Black America are seeking. America will never
distribute the wealth of this country to the poorest. In the land
of opportunity it is just that opportunity that sustains us. It is
the opportunity to be anything we want that makes this country great.
Obama is a clear sign of how great we can be. I disagree with his
politics, but love the fact that he is there for people to vote. Let
us all bask in the light that is the future but keep an eye on what
has gone on in the past.
“I am a Republican, a black, dyed in the wool Republican,
and I never intend to belong to any other party than the party of
freedom and progress.” Frederick Douglass
